Plant & Soil ResQ™ was applied to two problem areas at our golf course. The applications were done at the end of July 2001 during the heart of Sacramento’s summer. Consequently, August turned out to be the hottest month on record with nineteen consecutive days of 100+ degree temperatures. At night the winds would blow between 10 and 20 mph. This caused further drying and damage to our grass and soil.
The problem areas had “hot spots”, also known as “burn-outs”. These areas were dry and yellowish in color. Nighttime watering was done and early in the mornings a maintenance worker would begin spraying the problem areas with water. The water spraying would continue throughout the day in order to keep the problem areas wet and to try to contain the problem. However, these efforts were unsuccessful in containing the “hot spot/”burn-out” problem and the problem continued to spread.<
Applications of Plant & Soil Rescue were done to half of the practice putting green near the clubhouse and also to the surrounding areas of hole #5 and hole #7. On each of these holes, applications were done to the green surround rings, right up to the apron, in which two passes were done using a boom sprayer. This covered about 32’. The aprons of both of these holes were also treated with Plant & Soil Rescue.
After the applications, watering continued daily as scheduled with the sprinkler system. No additional watering was done to these areas. We continued our watering efforts to the problem areas that were untreated.
The results of the Plant & Soil Rescue applications were visible within a three-week time frame. The “hot spot”/ “burn-out” areas were gone and the grass was a lush green color. Plant & Soil Rescue had helped the treated areas to retain water, which increased the water content in the soil. It also provided the right amount of nutrients to the grass and soil.
The problem areas that were untreated remained as they were – dry and yellowish in color.
We have been happy with the results that Plant & Soil Rescue have provided.

Dear Bob,
We live in the heart of the Santa Monica mountains, a stone’s throw from L.A., but a world apart. Bordering on Topanga State Park, our property is a wild wonderland, with an extensive variety of trees and shrubs – all kinds of pine, eucalyptus, cypress, jacaranda, pepper, plum, spruce, maple, oak, olive, wisteria, bougainvillea, morning glory, English ivy, hyacinth, many cacti, succulents, yucca plants, as well as a scattering of fruit trees and rose bushes. We also maintain an extensive firebreak of fire-retardant vegetation (red apple). Beyond that lie the glorious coastal mountains, covered in dense, mature native sage scrub and chaparral.
I’m not a gardener. Our landscaping work around here consists primarily of brush clearance, limbing-up and trimming to maintain fire-code compliance. Water use and conservation in drought-prone Southern California is always an issue for homeowners, particularly on larger properties like this one. Over the twenty-plus years we’ve been here, we’ve tried to hold down our water usage, for reasons of both cost and conscience. As a consequence of this, as well as many years of short rainfall and long, hot, dry weather, our property was, quite frankly, starting to show the strain. The eucalyptus trees were getting tough and scrubby-looking, vines were sparse and sinewy, the old pines were looking tired and thirsty, with many dying branches and reddish-brown needles. Half the cypress trees were dwarfed. The rose bushes were neglected and all but forgotten. The succulents were mostly dry and leathery. Our fire-retardant vegetation was thin and stringy, allowing much incursion of flammable brush into our firebreak, which, of course, had to be cleared and removed every year.
About eighteen months ago, you convinced me to try ProTerra. I used about a quart per acre on the first application, highly diluted in a regular hose-type feeder. I did the same thing about three months later. By that time, I was already noticing that the place just seemed to be “lighting up” – more color, more blooms, etc. It was subtle at first, but became more and more obvious as the weeks and months went by. After about a year, I treated the place again, this time using two quarts per acre in a single application (instead of one quart per acre in two treatments). That was about three months ago.
As you saw for yourself when you visited recently, the place has never looked better or more vibrantly alive. The most accurate word I can use to describe the growth around here is “explosive”. The gnarly old eucalyptus trees are showing wild, bright new growth, many of them sloughing off their crusty bark and getting smooth and green again. The dwarfed cypress trees have shot up, nearly matching the tallest tree in the stand. Some of my little store-bought Christmas trees now tower over the house. We have baby trees everywhere, dozens of them, of all the varieties I mentioned and many I don’t even know -- and they’re healthy, happy and growing like crazy! The flowering plants and vines around the house are all lush and gorgeous. The bougainvillea at my front arch should have its own zip code! The forgotten roses have come roaring back, showing impressive new growth and giving up numerous colossal, fragrant flowers. My succulents look like they spent the winter in a greenhouse. All of this has come about with no change in our water bill, and no other change in our easygoing gardening habits -- except, of course, for ProTerra.
One of the most extraordinary things is that ProTerra doesn’t seem to play favorites... it just seems to work on everything that grows. Everywhere I look, I see visible, dramatic change – brighter, richer colors, transformation of weak, unhealthy plants into lush, exemplary ones -- more buds, more flowers, more fertility, more enthusiastic, unprecedented growth. Notably, our firebreak vegetation has grown and expanded aggressively, reducing our need for brush clearance this year. This savings alone is enough to cover the cost of the ProTerra treatment, without even mentioning all the other astonishing results. They should be dropping this stuff from planes when they re-seed the mountainsides after wildfires.
I could go on, but think I’ve made my point. Thanks for bringing ProTerra to our attention. I’m sure it won’t be long before you have the world’s attention.
Sincerely,
J.J. Zwerdling

I am a certified PGA Class A Golf Course Superintendent and since 1979 have been the General Manager and Superintendent of our golf course in Walnut Creek, California. First, let me provide a little background information. In 1998, I hired a certified arborist to evaluate every tree’s condition on our course. When this highly detailed report came back to me I was shocked. The report told me that a large percentage of the walnut trees lining the course were older than 43 years and must be cut down, removed and replaced with new trees. The walnut trees identified had a grey lifeless appearance. (See the attached photographs). The report also stated we could expect that each and every coming year an additional new percentage of the walnut trees would fall in this same removal and replacement process category.
As one might expect the cost for each tree’s removal and replacement is quite expensive. After trying other products, none of which produced any results, we felt a bit helpless until one of my employees suggested a product by ProTerra Technologies called Plant and Soil Rescue (You now have a specific tree product called Tree Rescue). Our first application to the walnut trees began the first week of in September 2001. The second application followed one month later, the first week in October 2001. There were no additional treatments following the second treatment.
Now, it’s one year later and I can share that what I have seen is nothing short of remarkable. These same grey, lifeless walnut trees treated with only ProTerra’s Tree Rescue have not only come back to life but are producing more walnuts than I can ever recall during the last 12 years. (See attached photos).
The $500,000 tree removal and replant project has been put on hold until after we complete spraying of the other trees on the course with Tree Rescue and monitor the continued evaluation of their progress. If all goes well, I would like to talk with you about providing this product to other PGA courses since I have many golf course contacts in Northern CA. I will keep you informed of the progress of the new tree spraying.
In conclusion, I just wanted to let you know you have developed an incredible product and am writing to say Thank You.

Our golf course was built in 1969 on top of sand and limestone with little to no results in establishing a base for any root structure to our fairways and greens. We have 1,380 trees on our course: 45-year-old walnut tress that were tagged for removal by our arborist in 2001 were treated with ProTerra Soil Rescue. Our driving range was sand and limestone – with no results in establishing a grass base.
The use of ProTerra Soil Rescue has been an unbelievable experience in just one season. Sand and limestone areas that would not grow grass are now blooming. Our walnut trees that were tagged for removal are producing more walnuts than they ever produced. The tree replacement of over 56 trees throughout the course with a big David has had a 0-loss factor using ProTerra. The sand-limestone driving range is growing grass and our water usage is decreasing.
This is our first year in using ProTerra and I am astonished at our results.
